Since its beginning in 1969, PML Microbiologicals has grown from a small local manufacturing facility to a leading global provider of high quality Microbiology products and services. Our products and services are utilized in the clinical, pharmaceutical, research, environmental, personal care, and food and beverage industries. We offer a complete line of Prepared Culture Media, Stains, Reagents, Quality Control Organisms, Sterility Products, Collection and Transport Systems, and an extensive array of accessories for the Microbiology Laboratory. PML Microbiologicals' roots date back to 1959 when Art Torland, a local Medical Technologist, began supplying sheep blood from his own three sheep (named Faith, Hope, and Charity) to the hospital where he was employed as laboratory supervisor. Art's laboratory, like most labs at that time, made its own culture media using glass Petri dishes that were subsequently washed and reused. Because these sheep were the only local source of fresh animal blood, Art was soon supplying sheep blood to several other local laboratories. In 1968, Art resigned from his position at the hospital to devote full time to his growing animal blood business. In 1969, Julian Torland, Art's brother and an experienced production manager, joined the business as a partner, and they built their first manufacturing facility near Portland, Oregon.

Far from its humble beginnings in 1969, PML now has two state-of-the-art production plants and four distribution sites in the US and Canada. Each PML manufacturing facility has its own fully equipped quality control testing laboratory staffed by experienced microbiologists. PML adheres to the recommendations of the FDA, CLSI, US Pharmacopeia and European Pharmacopoeia as a basis for the quality control testing of the performance of its products. With two ISO registered manufacturing sites in North America, PML is able to deliver the highest quality products with exceptional customer service.

PML employs over 200 people in four locations, serves laboratories throughout the world, and has a portfolio of over 5,000 products to serve its growing number of customers. As new and exciting changes occur and PML continues to expand, the primary objective remains constant - to continuously provide unsurpassed product quality with outstanding customer service and technical support.
